About Bissie
Dr. Bissie Tarekegn began her culinary career only after 11 years in the medical field. She trained at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland and was a child health specialist at UNICEF until she decided to switch careers and pursue her dream as a pastry chef.
After her training in pastry at the International Culinary Center (formerly the French Culinary Institute) in New York, Bissie worked several jobs in the restaurant industry, notably at Aquavit, a Swedish two-Michelin star restaurant in Manhattan.
Throughout it all, Bissie has maintained her own business, Bissie’s Custom Cakes & Desserts. Her business is committed to never compromising flavor, using only the freshest ingredients, and going the extra mile to wow her patrons.
